Reimagining Beauty, One Body at a Time
Stepping into Modeling
When I was a little girl, I was absolutely in love with fashion. My passion for fashion (Bratz reference) grew when I found my grandmother’s older-styled sewing machine(well older to me) that would convert into a nightstand. And because I never had the opportunity to meet her I was able to channel her spirit with my mom through sewing and other activities that she loved. As my love for sewing grew I quickly became attached to Project Runway and begged my parents to buy me the toy sets, so that I could be just like the fashion designers that I grew up with.
By the time I got to high school, others had convinced me to think of “stronger” career goals because people like me (a combination of plus size, big-footed, and “problematic skin”) are rarely considered for modeling and fashion designing. My parents still supported me in my desires by taking me to FIMD(Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) and L.A.’s Fashion District, from time to time. But I never was fully committed because of the fear of rejection.
Now we live in a pivotal time of change-making and inclusive representation. We are seeing new ways of showing up for ourselves and channeling the diverse and unique characteristics that make…..us. So in 2021, before life got too crazy, I decided to start working towards sparking that passion by wearing the things that make ME feel beautiful and slowly posting more on my Instagram so that I can show young plus-size women that we are beautiful in every stage of our bodies despite what “mainstream media standards” tell us.
“Too fat, too thin, too loud, too quiet - I was never going to fit the standards others created for me. Instead of complying, I protested.”
- Ashley Graham
Progress…. is progressing
In 2022, I began modeling with SMG Model Management based in Seattle, Washington. So far it’s been a blast and I cannot wait to see what this avenue has in store for me, as this body and time change. I am always looking for photographers and companies to work with, feel free to reach out to my agency for my availability and other info. My current availability is flexible and I am able to travel anywhere. Check out some of the work that I have done below.
